Harriett is seen sitting on the ground in her alleyway, she has bulky, brown tattered coat on and a brown stocking cap. She has her hands over a small kerosene heater outside of her box. Beneath the hat you can see a white bandage, there is also a band aid on her cheek. Harriett’s green eyes are bloodshot and her face is wind chapped.
Harriett: I don’t know Rocky. Maybe I’m not cut out for this, I should have listened to you. I haven’t won a match yet, not one! And look I am given a shot at the World title and I mess that up too. 3 weeks in the hospital has really cleared up some things in my eyes. Who knew you could injure so many parts of the body in one match?
And that bill…how am I ever going to pay that bill? I need a darn Christmas miracle that’s what I need. But we don’t get those anymore…UGH! I hate this time of year. Its too damn cold and the economy has even more people on the streets so if I even wanted to go to the mission it would be packed. This is going to be the longest winter ever, Rocky. Unless I keep touring with MWA.. I know it’s suicide but its warm in the arenas. And maybe I can get a raise.
Harriet sighs as she gets to her feet, she walks over to a burning barrel and pulls her grey gloves and warms her hands over the fire.
Harriet: Well, I think maybe I’ll sleep on it. In the morning things may be a bit clearer.
=================The next day===================
Charlotte Hunter is sitting at her desk when Harriet walks in, she scrunches her nose up a bit and looks pointedly at the homeless woman.
Harriett: Uh sorry about the smell but I’ve been living over burning barrels the last couple days and I singeg my hair. I need to speak with JJ, if he’s in that is.
Charlotte: Yeah, he’s in. Just knock first.
Harriett: Thanks.
Harriett walks over to a door with the name JJ Hunter on the door and knocks.
JJ: Come in.
JJ is sitting behind his desk shuffling through a stack of papers on his desk. He looks up and gives Harriett a nod of acknowledgment.
JJ: Glad to see you’re out of the hospital. What brought you to my office?
Harriett: Well I’m not sure I’m cut out for this career. I haven’t won a match yet and after my last match I’m not sure my body can handle it. I enjoy going out there and I even enjoy being in the ring face to face with some of the guys you have around here. I know I’m not the easiest person to be around and I’m sure some of the guys would be grateful if I left. So they wouldn’t have to touch me or smell me or whatever.
JJ looks as if he is about to speak.
Harriett: Don’t, it’s ok. I know I don’t smell like petunias. It goes along with my lifestyle and I’m used to the looks of disgust. Some day it might change but for now I am ok with my life. I live with my best friend and my house is pretty great. I even got a basketball hoop from the dollar store it keeps me active when I’m not in the ring. Really life couldn’t be much better. I don’t have big dreams really. I’d like to make money doing something I love. For too many years I had money and let me tell you I wasn’t nearly as happy then as I am now. Money can not buy you happiness.
Honestly I don’t see why you haven’t fired me yet. I came in during an amateur thing and you have let me stick around. Not that I don’t appreciate it. I do. Its been great. Well all except for that match against Mitchell…. And even that was pretty cool. A World title shot..yeah pretty cool. I just don’t know what me sticking around is doing to benefit your business. I mean people could probably get more entertainment watching Bum fights online than watching me run around the ring.
JJ: I don’t know what to say, Harriett. We’d like you to stick around, I just wrote the check out for your hospital bills. And we have some merchandise in the works for you, but I can understand why you’re unsure about working in this business. You’ll be making a bit more money this next season, and you’ll get a portion of your merchandise sales. I’ll even spring for your hotel rooms while we’re on the road. I would like you to make some changes though. We really need you to shower, there are showers in the arenas we visit and you’ll obviously have one in your hotel room. We can make some changes with make-up they will still have you looking dirty but it won’t make the other wrestlers uncomfortable.
Harriett: I appreciate all of what you’re saying but the only time I am going to change me is when I choose too. I will not shower simply because you or anyone else wants me to. I am who I am JJ you can take me or leave me. Love me or hate me, I don’t care. I guess I have a lot to think about. I’ll get in touch before next season.
Harriett leaves the arena and heads home to her box.
Harriett: I don’t know what I’m going to do Rocky. I really don’t know. I guess we’ll see what I choice I make when the new season starts.
